Creative Zen Vision:M – the dongle

Creative Zen Vision:M - the dongle
This is the inside-pcb in Creative’s Zen Vision:M dongle – an adapter that connects to the bottom of the unit through a proprietary connector and provides usb / 5V dc / a/v-out.

I opened it up to see if there’s anything one can do to change the shape of the adapter itself – the problem is that it is a bit smaller than the player and *may* get lost one day (which of course adds to Creative’s marketing strategy of selling the adapter as accessory for something like US-$ 9,95).

I don’t know what made them go for this stupid solution (despite the marketing reasons) as all important jacks (a/v-out & USB) are separate.

Wires soldered to the top of the the pins (in previous photo) – keeps the FM still working while I’m testing the thing. These three wire route to a audio/headphone jack (see parts list).
